Benefits
Will a Lumalier system remove mold from the air?
A Lumalier system will remove airborne mold, kill mold
in the ducts and on the A/C coils and drain pan of your central heating
and air system. It will not prevent mold from growing in other areas of
your home; however, airborne mold spores are drastically reduced. This
reduces the chance of new mold growth in your home.
Will a Lumalier system kill ALL airborne microorganisms?
No, however it will kill up to 99+% of most common microbes.
Will a Lumalier system help with allergies and asthma?
Airborne-related allergies have shown substantial decrease and even complete
remission when UV-C is used in HVAC equipment.
Can a Lumalier system save energy?
Yes.
UVGI will degrade organic buildup in coils, keeping coils continuously
clean. This lowers HVAC energy costs by improving heat transfer and increasing
net cooling capacity.
Installation / Maintenance
What are the maintenance requirements?
UV lamp(s) should be replaced once a year. Filters should
be changed every 3 months. Complete instructions can be found here.
Is there a warranty?
5-year replacement
Where is it installed?
The entire system is installed within the confines of your HVAC system.
It is silent, invisible and completely safe.
How long does it take to professionally install a Lumalier
UV Germicidal Air Disinfection system?
Your professional Lumalier installer can install a system in
your home in just a few hours.
Do you clean the A/C coils and ducts first?
UVC will degrade all of the organic material on and within a coil, usually
within 30 days or less. Prior cleaning of the coil is not necessary.
However we will treat your coils and ducts with a biocide spray that
kills biological growth within the system.
How much energy does a UV-C device use?
Each unit consumes very little energy. Depending on local energy costs,
each fixture the energy cost to power each fixture is under $.12 per
day. Increased efficiency in the air conditioning system will usually
offset any electricity costs of the lamps.
UV Light
What is UVGI?
This UV wavelength and the process of using UV-C to destroy germs is
know as Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation, or UVGI, a term used by
Federal Agencies such OSHA, NIOSH and the CDC when referring to UV-C.
How can light destroy germs and biological contamination?
Ultraviolet light has four principal wavelengths: UV-A, UV-B, UV-C and
UV-V. Ultraviolet light at generated in the UV-C spectrum (254nm) is
classified as ‘Germicidal’ because it will alter an organism’s DNA
so that it can no longer reproduce—making it effectively harmless.
Without the ability to reproduce, the microorganism population is rapidly
eliminated.
It is true that some UV-C will produce ozone?
No. The UV-C devices that Lumalier installs will produce no
ozone. UV-V produces ozone and Lumalier does not use UV-V
lamps.
Is UV-C harmful?
UV-C is only harmful under prolonged direct exposure - which is not an
issue, since the devices are installed inside air conditioning equipment
or are otherwise shielded to prevent exposure.
